FUQUAY-VARINA, N.C. — A Fuquay-Varina preschool teacher has been accused of child assault because she allegedly "poked" one of the students in her care hard enough to leave visible bruises, court documents show.

Felicia Poole, 52, of Durham, was released from the Wake County Detention Center earlier this month after posting a $2,000 bond following prosecutors' decision to charge her with assault on a child under 12 and misdemeanor child abuse, according to the arrest warrant.

Fuquay-Varina police confirmed that Poole worked at the Little Angels Prepatory day care center.

When contacted by WRAL News Wednesday, the center declined to comment about the case.

Investigators said on July 11 that Poole poked a 4-year-old preschool student repeatedly in the chest with enough force to leave "multiple contusions on the chest area."

Fuquay-Varina police said they launched an investigation after they were contacted by Wake County Child Protective Services.
