SANFORD, N.C. — A massive tree fell Friday on a Sanford home when strong storms blew through the area. Six family members were inside when it happened.

According to the Sanford Fire Department, no one was seriously injured when the tree fell before 9:15 a.m. into a home on Third Street, tearing off the front of the home.

Three family members were trapped inside a front bedroom. Firefighters had to use the back of the home to rescue the family.

One woman who lived at the home was treated for a concussion.

The American Red Cross will assist the families with temporary housing until they are able to return to their home.

The crash damaged power lines on the street, and Duke Energy crews spent hours in Sanford working to restore power for the neighbors. They had to untangle wires from the branches of the tree before power could be turned back on.

Two homes in Wake County were struck by lightning Friday morning -- one in Fuquay-Varina and one in Garner. No one was injured.
