RALEIGH, N.C. — Tuesday is a hodgepodge of activity at the General Assembly, primarily on the House side. Only three Senate committees are meeting, and the chamber has just a couple of non-controversial bills on its floor calendar.

Meanwhile, the House K-12 Education Committee will take up the always ticklish subject of school calendars as it considers a pilot project to allow districts in 20 counties to experiment with how they structure their school years, and a second education committee will discuss a plan to restart the North Carolina Teaching Fellows program.

Rep. Chuck McGrady, R-Henderson, plans to roll out a bill that will let craft brewers roll out more barrels without going through distributors.

Like the Senate, the full House has few bills on its floor calendar, but one would prohibit flying drones near prisons and a second would give law enforcement fast access to cellphone GPS data in an emergency.
