RALEIGH, N.C. — Some drivers waited on Western Boulevard near the Dix Park entrance for more than an hour Tuesday for the preview night of WRAL's Nights of Lights, as Raleigh police cleared bicyclists out so cars could enter.

Tuesday's event welcomed bicyclists to the light show, but all other nights are for cars only, so traffic conditions are expected to improve.

Still, Raleigh police said they expect waits for each event. People who can't get to the Dix Park entrance before their time slot due to traffic should know their tickets will be honored.

Drive-through events, like Nights of Lights, around North Carolina are immensely popular during the coronavirus pandemic. Some other light shows are warning of wait times of more than three hours in line.

People in line on Tuesday night said depending on when they got in line, it took from one hour to more than two hours.

Nights of Lights is sold out through Christmas but tickets are available for Dec. 26 through Dec. 31.
