The 'Coolest Thing Made in NC' competition crowns winner

RALEIGH, N.C. — A vocational truck beat out a jet for the title of the "Coolest Thing Made in North Carolina."

The annual contest, presented by the North Carolina Chamber, promotes the variety of goods made in North Carolina. The statewide online competition started with 68 nominees. More than 41,000 online votes over three rounds. The winners were named on Friday.

The 2021 Western Star 49X Vocational Truck assembled in Cleveland, N.C., was crowned the winner after receiving 2,725 votes in the final round. The company will receive a trophy, a spotlight on the "Coolest Thing Made in North Carolina" website and featured in NC Chamber and Business North Carolina publications, podcasts, and in social and digital media.
The top five winners were:
  1. Western Star 49X Vocational Truck (Cleveland, NC)
  2. HondaJet EliteS (Greensboro)
  3. Caterpillar's Cat® 938M Wheel Loader (Clayton)
  4. George’s BBQ Sauce (Nashville)
  5. Flucelvax Influenza Vaccine by Seqirus (Holly Springs)

Nominations for the 2022 competition will open in August.
