I am very lucky to know some incredible fathers -- my husband, my dad, my father-in-law, my best friend's husband -- the list goes on. These dads are all special in their own way and contribute different things to their families.

In my little family, "dada" is so silly and fun -- no one makes my daughter laugh like he does. But he does so much more than that.

It's my nature to be on top of everything -- meal planning, doctor's appointments, researching daycares. But my partner is amazing. He constantly steps in -- even when I resist -- to make sure the load is shared. I get nights with my girlfriends and have even had an occasional weekend away because of him.

Thank you to the dads in my life and all the dads out there.

Some ideas for Father's Day

Isolation during COVID-19 made me crave experiences and adventure with my family -- and these days, most adventures include our toddler. Time together is what is precious to us right now.

For Father's Day, instead of spending money on a card or gifts, I plan to treat my husband and daughter to a day of fun. I won't be doing all of these things in one day, but here are some of my ideas for this weekend and the summer in general:

  • Pack a cooler, umbrella and sunscreen, and go to the beach for the day (the forecast for Father's Day looks perfect!)
  • Visit a new park or hike a new trail.
  • Surprise your partner with tickets to a sporting event, comedy show, beer festival or something else he loves. Here's a list of upcoming festivals.
  • Spend the day at a pool. No pool? Find one near you.
  • Write a letter. I did this for my husband's first Father's Day to thank him for supporting and loving me during those amazing yet difficult first moments of our daughter's life.
