DURHAM, N.C. — The Orange County Sheriff's Office said 16-year-old Nicholas Robert Woodrum is home with his parents and safe.

According to police, Woodrum left his home Tuesday morning to run an errand but never returned. After looking for him for several hours, his parents reported him missing.

The search was centered in Durham, where investigators found Woodrum's cellphone at a McDonald’s on Guess Road. The teenager was found later.

"We are grateful for everyone’s compassion and concern," read a post on the Orange County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page. "Special thanks to the Durham Police Department."

Officials said Woodrun, a student at Eno River Academy, left home in a blue Acura MDX with license plate YYH-3942 and a bike rack on the back.
