RALEIGH, N.C. — I have a secret. Deep down I want to decorate my house like Clark Griswold from "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation." I want my house to glow and be a winter wonderland.
But, I don't have the money, expertise or space to make my house glow like WRAL Nights of Lights. Each year, I try to add something new, but for some reason I end up losing more decorations than I add.

I've lost two snowmen to structural collapse - aka they lose their arms and heads and couldn't manage to stand upright after a couple years of use.

This year, I decided to focus on lights. I invested in this wild light system that lets me set up patterns on my phone. I can even coordinate it with music. I like it, but it isn't enough for me. I want more. I look at my nearly empty front yard and think, "We need more!"

My mom has turned her front yard into a winter wonderland. People stop and take photos of it, people honk and wave to her. I guess that's where I get it from - my parents love decorations!

I failed to mention that my husband isn't a huge fan of decorations. He puts them up because of me and the kids. He doesn't do it because he likes it. I hoped reducing this year's decorations would give him a break from my crazy Griswold side, but I've got the holiday decorating bug in me.

I saw some LED lighted trees and a few really sturdy looking snowmen on my neighbor's yard the other day. And I'm slowly trying to figure out how to steal some of my mom's elves off of her lawn without her noticing. I really want to get some of those glass blown elves from Nights of Lights for my lawn!
The 2nd annual WRAL Nights of Lights features MORE LIGHTS, MORE NIGHTS, and FEWER CARS. Drive through this family-friendly way to welcome the holiday season at Dix Park in Raleigh.
