Want to include your four-legged family members in a day at the pool? Both Chapel Hill and Durham pools are offering some special opportunities for pups to splash this weekend.

Chapel Hill's 14th annual dog swim

Orange County’s Animal Services Department will hold its annual dog swim from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, at the A.D. Clark Pool located at the Hargraves Community Center at 216 N. Roberson St. in Chapel Hill.

The annual Orange County Animal Services Dog Swim gives dog owners the chance to recreate with their dogs and socialize with other residents, according to a press release.

"Dogs come to swim, and we provide Frisbees and tennis balls for them to play with” said Julia Herman, Assistant Recreation Supervisor for Aquatic programs at the Chapel Hill's Parks & Recreation Department, in the press release.

This is the 14th year for the dog swim, sponsored by Orange County Animal Services and Chapel Hill Parks and Recreation. It attracts people and dogs from across the Triangle and beyond.

Here's the deal:

  • Orange County dogs can swim for $10 and dogs from other counties can swim for $15. Proof of residence is required to receive the Orange County rate, according to the release. Handlers will be allowed in the pool only to help dogs out of the water; no human swimming!
  • All dogs must be current on their vaccinations, not in season, and on leash when entering the event.
The Facebook event page has more details.

Durham's Pooch Plunge

From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, at Hillside Pool in Durham, the event includes an opportunity for dogs to swim and play in water.

Here's the deal:

  • Dogs must be accompanied by at least one adult (18 years old and up).
  • Maximum two dogs per adult.
  • All dogs must meet vaccination requirements for Durham parks and recreation's dog parks before you register for the event.
  • The fee per dog is $6 for city residents and $11 for non-city residents.
Pre-registration is required. More information is available on Durham's website.
