DURHAM, N.C. — As the summer season gets underway, the Museum of Life and Science is now open daily. With Memorial Day, the Durham museum began operating seven days a week through Labor Day. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

This adds a couple more days of play at the museum each week. It had been open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Wednesday through Sunday.

Because of COVID, admission to the museum continues to require a reservation in advance for both general admission visitors and members. While at the museum, everybody age five and up must wear a face mask while inside. Masks are optional at the museum's outdoor exhibits.

Admission is $23 and $18 for kids ages 3 to 12. There are discounts for seniors and active or retired military. Members play for free. Train rides aboard the Ellerbe Creek Railway are $5.50 (and $4 for museum members).

The museum has a post with 17 tips for making a visit great. They include bringing a refillable water bottle, getting your train tickets at check-in and, if you're able, planning for a weekday visit when there aren't as many people at the museum.
