Snow in NC ❄️ Western NC ski resorts see first measurable snowfall of the season

Several of North Carolina ski resorts in the western part of the state saw their first measurable snowfall Thursday of the 2024-25 season.

The National Weather Service [NWS] reports a winter weather advisory started at 4 p.m. Thursday and is due to remain in effect until 7 a.m. Saturday for Banner Elk, the mountain town between Beech Mountain and Sugar Mountain.

Snow accumulations are expected to be between 2 to 3 inches in lower elevations and between 4 to 6 inches on ridgetops, according to the NWS.

On Thursday afternoon, the Beech Mountain Resort camera showed both real snow falling and man-made snow. The resort is scheduled to open on Nov. 29 for the upcoming ski season.

Sugar Mountain says on its website to "stay tuned for opening day!"

The snow is expected to accumulate in the higher elevated areas like the West Virginia ski resorts.
