Documents obtained by WRAL News on Tuesday identify James Dunmore as a person of interest in the disappearance of his girlfriend, Allisha Watts, and confirm he tried to commit suicide. With Watts having not been seen since July 16, investigators are searching for evidence of murder, according to a search warrant.

As the search for Watts enters its third week, WRAL News is learning more about Dunmore, Watts' boyfriend and the person she was last seen with.

Watts' friend Learen Blue said the missing 39-year-old traveled to Charlotte on July 14 to see Dunmore in her black Mercedes SUV. The two had been dating for close to a year.

An incident report from the Anson County Sheriff's Office dated July 20 states Dunmore "does have a history of domestic violence and is considered a person of interest at this time."

Dunmore was found, unresponsive, in Watts' car in a DMV parking lot in Polkton on July 18, two days after the couple was seen together in Charlotte. Watts was never located.

A search warrant from Mecklenburg County confirms Dunmore had tried to commit suicide before he was found. The warrant also revealed the two planned to attend a comedy show at Bojangles Coliseum the night of July 16, but never attended. Someone also told police that Watts never showed up for work the following week, which they said was out of character for her. On July 19, Foxfire police went to Watts' home and did not find her.

Officers told WRAL News when they found Dunmore inside the SUV he initially told authorities he was taking a nap. Officers returned to the parking lot three hours later and found him unresponsive.

Dunmore was unresponsive when he was taken to the hospital. His current condition and location is not known.

A candlelight vigil will be held for Watts on Tuesday, Aug. 1, at 7 p.m. at 1250 W. New York Ave. in Southern Pines.

Days after Watts was reported missing, her sister captured cellphone video of police officers searching Dunmore's home in University City, just outside of Charlotte. Documents later confirmed Dunmore was a person of interest in the case.

Allisha Watts' boyfriend has a criminal history

Watts' cousin Gwen Utley pointed WRAL News to Dunmore's violent criminal history from his time in Virginia.

"The charges alone already let you know, we are dealing with a criminal," Utley said. "We are dealing with a guy with mental issues."

Virginia records show Dunmore has convictions for abduction, stalking and assault and battery. The abduction charge from 2003 carried a maximum prison sentence of five years.

Dunmore has not been charged with a crime in connection to Watts' disappearance, and authorities have not responded to questions about his condition or whereabouts since he was found in that SUV on July 18.

July 14: Allisha Watts' friend Learen Blue said Watts traveled to Charlotte on July 14 to see her boyfriend, James Dunmore, in her black Mercedes SUV.

July 16: Allisha Watts was last seen by friends in Moore County. Watts and Dunmore leave for Charlotte in her black Mercedes SUV. The two had tickets to a comedy show at Bojangles Coliseum, but did not attend.

July 18: Watts' SUV was found at Dunmore's house and Watts' phone and Dunmore's phone were pinged at his house that morning. Hours later, Watts' black Mercedes SUV was found in parking lot of the Anson County DMV office in Polkton. Dunmore was found inside and unresponsive.

July 19: Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) file a missing persons report for Allisha Watts. Foxfire police search Watts' home and do not find her.

July 20: Anson County Sheriff's Office links SUV to Watts and calls Dunmore "a person of interest" in her disappearance. A shell casing was found along the street in front of Dunmore's home.

July 24: CMPD announces Watts' car has been found.

July 25: Anson County Sheriff's Office releases statement saying Dunmore was found along with the SUV. A psychic tells detectives where they can find Watts, but a search of the area yields no results.

July 26: Police officers are seen searching Dunmore's Charlotte-area home.

Watts' disappearance has spawned much interest around and outside North Carolina. Defense attorney Lee Turner said the circumstances surrounding this case aren't like most searches for missing people.

"The fact that he is in her car at a weird location, with her purse still there, there are a lot of things don’t seem right," Turner said. "The most unusual thing is the boyfriend in the car, with the purse. That stands out in my opinion."

After her disappearance, friends and family members held a vigil for Watts and the activist group Racial Justice Network held a press conference demanding answers from police. Some family members searched a field in Wadesboro after hearing a tip that there may be evidence there.

Friends noted that Watts regularly attended church in Charlotte. She was CEO of Inspired Visions Support Services, Inc. in Siler City. The company provides disability services to persons of all ages in several North Carolina counties.

Watts' family, friends and loved ones are gathering for a vigil in Southern Pines on Tuesday night at 7 p.m.
