RALEIGH, N.C. — If you've been to Marbles Kids Museum in the last year or more, you'll know that Moore Square, the city park across Hargett Street, is going through a massive renovation.

The project will wrap up this summer, and a grand opening is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Aug. 3. The revamped open space will include, among many other things, the city's very first water play component. Also look for a small tree house-themed play area with a slide, which will sit right next to a planned cafe. The square also will include additional spaces for gathering, performances and other community events.

This month, the city released Moore Square's events calendar, and I'm spying a ton of family-friendly activities (including that grand opening celebration).

They include a Moore Movies series, which will feature the classic "Iron Giant," on Aug. 4. There's a children's story hour from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., Aug. 5. From 10 a.m. to noon, on Aug. 5, you can stay to build with oversized blocks during a program called Imagination Playground.

Going forward, the calendar has some art and nature programs, along with a farmers' market, more story hours, movies and game nights where oversized Jenga, chess, Connect Four and more will be available for free play.

Looks like fun! The events calendar is online now.
