RALEIGH, N.C. — Rain will continue Tuesday after a series of overnight storms, becoming heavier at times and lighter at others, according to WRAL meteorologist Peta Sheerwood.

Although thunderstorms are possible most of Tuesday, severe weather isn't expected. Rain is most likely to be heavy Tuesday morning, decreasing through the afternoon.

Tuesday's rain chances in the Triangle

Despite the chance for storms, Tuesday's weather will be calmer than the thunderstorms some experienced Monday night.

Powerlines fell on Glenwood Avenue near Hilburn Drive late Monday evening, closing the road for four hours. A car crashed into a utility pole in Durham early Tuesday morning, stretching traffic lights across a major intersection.

It was unclear if the incidents were weather-related.

The Triangle could have gusts reaching 40 to 50 mph on Tuesday, Sheerwood said.

Tuesday’s high will reach 70 degrees, and Wednesday will stay warm with a high of 64 degrees. While rain is possible Wednesday, it will be much drier than Monday and Tuesday. Storms are also possible.

Temperatures will drop Thursday night, and overnight lows will fall into the 30s. Thursday will be the first dry day, and it will also be cooler, with a high in the low 60s.

7-Day Forecast

Winter is expected to make a comeback Friday, with mostly clear skies and highs at 50 degrees.
