Seasonal pools get ready to open

Find out when your favorite municipal pools and spraygrounds will open. (And yes, Fayetteville and Lee County readers, there's information here for you).

It's hard to believe, but the region's seasonal pools and spraygrounds are getting ready to open.

So I'm listing the big ones. If I've forgotten one, please add it in the comments.

Be sure to click on the links to find the hours of operation and learn more about the fees and swim lessons for each of the pools.

Please note: This list includes only municipal or county-run pools that anybody in the public can swim at ... not pools at private clubs or neighborhoods or pools that require some sort of membership.

The City of Raleigh operates eight pools, four which with outdoor swimming.
Biltmore Pool, 701 Crown Crossing Lane

Outdoor features: Wade pool, lap and recreation main pool and 12-feet deep end

Lake Johnson Pool, 5863 Jaguar Drive

Outdoor features: Large spray ground, wade pool, lap and recreation main pool

Longview Pool, 321 Bertie Drive

Outdoor features: Wade pool, lap and recreation main pool

Ridge Road Pool, 1709 Ridge Road

Outdoor features: Wade pool, spray ground, lap and recreation main pool, 12-feet deep end

Millbrook Exchange Pool, 1905 Spring Forest Road
Features: Indoor and outdoor pool and spray ground (summer season). The year-round pool becomes open air during the summer.

Optimist Pool, 5902 Whittier Drive

Features: Indoor and outdoor pool, 50-meter by 25-yard Olympic-size swimming pool, large wading pool, lap and recreational swimming. The year-round pool becomes open air during the summer.

Pullen Aquatics Center, 410 Ashe Ave.

Features: Indoor pool, diving board

Triangle Aquatics Center, 275 Convention Dr.

This is an indoor facility, but a public one and still worth noting.

Chapel Hill

A.D. Clark Pool, 216 North Roberson St.

Scheduled to open Memorial Day weekend

The town also has two indoor pools: Homestead Aquatic Center and Chapel Hill Community Center Indoor Pool.


The sprayground at Forest Hills, 1639 University Dr., opened May 14. Its pool, along with the rest of the city's pool, open June 12.

Hillside Pool and Sprayground, 1221 Sawyer St.

Opens June 12

Long Meadow Pool, 917 Liberty St.

Opens June 12

Edison Johnson Sprayground, 500 W. Murray Ave., opens June 14. The sprayground at East End Park and E.D. Mickle Community Center is closed this season for construction.

Lee County
O.T. Sloan Pool, 1420 Bragg St., Sanford

Opens May 29 with weekend hours until June 13.

Morrisville Aquatics and Fitness Center, 1301 Morrisville Pkwy.

The facility, which includes a large pool and baby and wading pool, is under an air-supported dome for year-round swimming.

Wake Forest
Holding Park Pool, 133 W. Owen Ave.

The pool will be open May 29-31, then open weekends only until June 12. The season ends Aug. 22.
