APEX, N.C. — Wake County sheriff's investigators on Tuesday released the name and photograph of a man they called "armed and dangerous," the suspect being sought in the shooting last Thursday of a 17-year-old Apex girl.

They asked for help from the public to find Alexander Gandarilla de Lossantos, whom they plan to charge with murder.

Investigators have not named the girl, who was found by her father in their home in the 3000 block of Copperhead Road, near U.S. Highway 1. They say she was shot while her family was asleep upstairs.

The teen was rushed to WakeMed but died hours later.

Detectives say there was no sign of forced entry at the home. Investigators believe the teen knew de Lossantos, but they did not say how.

Eric Curry, spokesman for the sheriff's office, said the shooter ran from the home. For hours, police dogs searched the woods around the property to try and pick up his trail.
