MORRISVILLE, N.C. — A South Carolina woman is continuing her desperate search to find her monkey, who went missing in Morrisville after the pet was spooked by the noise of a passing plane flying overhead.

Ann Smith told WRAL News on Tuesday that she fears her pet monkey, named Willow, won't survive the recent round of cold, wet weather that has chilled central North Carolina in recent days.

"She can't survive this cold," Smith said. "They're tropical animals and the weather where she's from doesn't get below 70 degrees. I don't know how much longer she could bear this weather, if she's still alive."

The simian scampered away through the parking lot while Smith was trying to retrieve her luggage from her vehicle.

Smith is offering a $1,500 "no questions asked" reward for Willow's safe return.

"It's like losing a child," she said. "No one knows unless you have one."

Smith asks that whoever finds the monkey take it to a vet. Once it is verified that it is Willow, the money will be transferred.
