Go Ask Mom

Saturday food drive gathers items to deliver to kids who might go without when schools close May 1

For lots of kids, the breakfast and lunch they get at school may be the only meals they get all day. With schools across the Triangle and state closed May 1 for mass teacher protests in Raleigh, many of those kids may go without meals for the day.

For lots of kids, the breakfast and lunch they get at school may be the only meals they get all day. With schools across the Triangle and state closed May 1 for mass teacher protests in Raleigh, many of those kids may go without meals for the day.

And that's why the North Carolina Educators Association is encouraging people to drop off food donations today, Saturday, April 27, at grocery stores across the region through an effort with the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle. Donated food will be distributed to kids in need on Tuesday, April 30, to take home so they have food to eat when schools are closed.

They are seeking the following items: Instant oatmeal, granola bars, boxes of raisins, ramen noodle packs, and single-serve meat (such as tuna and beef stew). Food will be collected at 10 locations from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., today, Saturday, April 27. Be sure to label your donation pack for May 1.
