No broken bones, but concussion for Robeson County deputy struck by vehicle on I-95
A Robeson County sheriff's deputy was struck by a vehicle while redirecting traffic off of Interstate 95 overnight Thursday.
Posted — UpdatedSheriff Burnis Wilkins posted on Facebook that Detective Stephen Matthew Lassiter, 31 of Lumberton, was diverting traffic from Interstate 95 South at exit 33 when he was struck by a Ford truck at 12:05 a.m.
Lassiter was airlifted to McLeod Medical Center in Florence, South Carolina, with a severe head trauma, Wilkins said.
Wilkins updated Lassiter's condition Friday afternoon to say he had no broken bones, but had suffered a concussion.
The driver of the truck, Lawrence Adair, of Hope Mills, was charged with failing to reduce speed.
Traffic was being diverted because construction crews were working on a bridge on I-95.
