MORRISVILLE, N.C. — Road construction will begin Monday along one of the main routes into Raleigh-Durham International Airport.

The work will take place on International Drive between John Brantley Boulevard and Commerce Drive -- or between economy parking lot four and the entrance to the terminals.

According to the airport, traffic changes and lane closures will affect travelers and people picking up passengers for the next six months.

Part of the major road rehabilitation project includes replacing the aging asphalt, limiting traffic to one-way at times. RDU leaders said most of the work will be done in the evening and overnight hours, but some short delays can be expected, so arrive to the airport with time to spare.

The project will be phased to minimize the impact on travelers by alternating closures of traffic lanes and driveways.

This work isn’t expected to be complete until early November.
