Construction on Atlantic Avenue in Raleigh is at a standstill because the contractor, J-Smith Civil, abandoned the project.
The eastbound portion of I-440 near Six Forks Road has been resurfaced after drivers complained of old asphalt and uneven lanes. The total project will cost about $26 million.

The city of Raleigh is trying to figure out how to move forward with a project to make Six Forks Road safer and reduce traffic congestion near North Hills.
Portions of Interstate 40 West between Wake and Johnson counties will be closed this week for the Complete 540 project, which will eventually connect Interstate 40 with the future N.C. 540 near U.S. Highway 70.
One man died and another was hospitalized after an 80-year-old driver hit them on N.C. Highway 150.
