RALEIGH, N.C. — Kickoff to Kindergarten can't take place like it usually does at Marbles Kids Museum, but the downtown Raleigh museum has an alternative.

The day-long event for rising kindergartners usually offers free admission to Marbles and a host of activities that are geared toward getting them ready for school, including a pretend lunch line and an opportunity to board a school bus.

But this year, because of the pandemic, Marbles is closed — and most kids across the region are starting school virtually.

Still, lots of kids are preparing for that big step up to kindergarten, and Marbles is helping them mark the move.

On Thursday, Aug. 6, to Saturday, Aug. 8, Marbles will have resource bags available for families to pick up. There also will be a photo op for families.

Hours are 4 p.m .to 7 p.m., Aug. 6; 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Aug. 7 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Aug. 8.

Resource bags will include items from Marbles, Wake County Public School System, the Poe Center, NC Museum of Art, Project Enlightenment and other partners.

"Social distancing and safety precautions will be adhered to," according to Marbles.

More information is on Marbles' website.
