DURHAM, N.C. — R.E.M. frontman and multimedia artist Michael Stipe will be debuting a new installation Moogfest this month in Durham, festival organizers announced Tuesday.
Stipe shot his new multimedia installation, Thibault Dance, in New York City. It features French dancer and researcher Thibault Lac's movements set to Stipe's original score. This is the installation Stipe has created exclusively for Moogfest. Last year, Stipe created Jeremy Dance, an original piece that paid tribute to Stipe’s longtime, departed friend Jeremy Ayers.

The installation can be found throughout the festival on the ground-level exterior of the historic Snow Building in downtown Durham.

The festival, which is devoted to art, music and technology, will be held May 17-20 at several walkable venues.

Vanguard drone music composer Stephen O’Malley of Sunn O))), Khanate and Burning Witch and pop experimentalist Angel Deradoorian of Dirty Projectors and Avey Tare, have been added to the festival's durational programming. The duo hold a four-hour performance on May 19.

R&B singer Mhysa, EDM beatmaker No Eyes and Durham's own noise punk duo sister, brother have also been added to the festival's nighttime lineup.

Renowned music educator Herb Deutch, who collaborated with Bob Moog on the development of the Moog Synthesizer, will be participating in a daytime conversation on May 17.

Another new feature at this year's festival - the Reverb Record Fair, which will offer everything from obscure albums to collection staples. The fair, presented by Reverb LP, will include selections from All Day Records, Carolina Soul, Merge Records and more. The record fair will be free and open to the public from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. daily.

Moogfest previously announced that Wes Borland, guitarist for the rap-rock band Limp Bizkit, will be presenting a four-hour event featuring a self-made rig. This year's lineup will also include two performances by Mouse on Mars, Jon Hopkins and Little Boots, and a headlining performance by R&B artist Kelela.
Moogfest previously announced that Chelsea Manning, the former U.S. soldier who disclosed 750,000 government documents to Wikileaks, now a privacy rights and transparency activist, will be its keynote speaker.
Single day passes are also now on sale. Starting at $99 plus fees, the passes offer general admission access to all events taking place that day.
