Sleep, bathe in sound and experience it in 360 degrees at Moogfest
The lineup for this year's Moogfest includes a member of the band Limp Bizkit, two shows from Mouse on Mars, and a 360-degree audio cube.
Posted — UpdatedWes Borland, guitarist for the rap-rock band, will be presenting a four-hour event featuring a self-made rig.
The festival, which is devoted to art, music and technology, will be held May 17-20 at several walkable venues throughout downtown Durham.
This year's lineup will also include two performances by Mouse on Mars, Jon Hopkins and Little Boots, and a headlining performance by R&B artist Kelela.
Moogfest will also feature the debut of A3 (Audio Cubed), a 3D audio environment to power exclusive performances from nine artists under the festival’s Spatial Sound banner at the Durham Armory. The space will include a 360-degree sound system with 24 independent sources, allowing performers to articulate sound from every angle.
Sleep and Bathe in Sound
Other event highlights include a sleep concert by members of the Icelandic record collective, Bedroom Community, and performances by Boogie Down Productions co-founder KRS-One. Former Rapture multi-instrumentalist Gabriel Andruzzi will host daily Sound Baths, which are a mix of meditation and healing musical performances where people lie on the floor and let the sound wash over them.
Moogfest's performers list also includes industrial music iconoclast Author & Punisher; synth pioneer Suzanne Ciani; DJ Stingray, former DJ for legendary techno group Drexciya; afrofuturist hip-hop duo Shabazz Palaces; Genesis P-Orridge’s experimental video and music ensemble Psychic TV; Bedroom Community founder Valgeir Sigurðsson with labelmate Liam Byrne; genre-defying Detroit producer Waajeed; and the apocalyptic vision of found-sound collagist Yves Tumor.
