RALEIGH, N.C. — Now that the state has moved into Phase 3 of its reopening plan, Raleigh Parks announced Tuesday that it's reopening some of its most popular amenities, including Pullen Park's train and kiddie boats and the Buffaloe Road Aquatic Center.

The amenities have been closed since March when much of the state shut down because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Pullen Park's train and kiddie boat rides will reopen with limited capacity on Saturday, Oct. 10. The city cautions that there likely will be extended wait times during peak hours. The park's popular carousel will not reopen, for now, because it is indoors.

Starting Oct. 19, Buffaloe Road Aquatic Center also will reopen with limited capacity. Advanced reservations will be encouraged for the complex that includes an indoor pool with a three-story water slide, vortex, lazy river and sprayground.

Moore Square's interactive water feature also is open now.

The city also will begin allowing some rentals.

Starting Oct. 10, multipurpose fields will reopen and outdoor field rentals will resume as long as users follow outdoor group gathering limits. The state's mass gathering limit remains at 50 people for outdoor activities.

And starting Oct. 19, indoor facility rentals are allowed as long as indoor gathering limits are met. The indoor mass gathering limit is set at 25 people.

Limited outdoor programs also will start up at the Five Points Center for Active Adults on Oct. 12.

More information is on the city's website.
