RALEIGH, N.C. — A nearly nine-hour standoff at a North Raleigh condominium complex ended around 1:30 a.m. Sunday after police detained a 30-year-old man.

The man's name was not released, and he was not charged with any crime. Police say he was taken to a hospital for a medical evaluation.

Officers and SWAT team members surrounded a home at 11925 Field Towne Lane around 5 p.m. Saturday after they were asked to check on the man's welfare.

Neighbors around the Kingston at Wakefield Plantation community said they were asked by police to leave the area.

"You never know what the situation can turn out to be," said William Brady. "You don't know whether he might come out blasting, or being angry or whatever. So when police asked us to leave not knowing what it was all about, we left. No problem."

No further information about the standoff was immediately available.
