RALEIGH, N.C. — Peaches are in season in North Carolina right now, and that means Peach Day at the State Farmers Market in Raleigh is coming up.

The event is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Thursday, at the market, which you'll find at 1201 Agriculture St., Raleigh, just off exit 297 from Interstate 40.

During peach day, market visitors will find free peach ice cream samples, a peach dessert contest, an appearance from the N.C. peach queen and free recipes and information to take home.

And, of course, you can find all kinds of peaches, sweet corn and other yummy fruits and veggies on sale.

These events at the market offer up some low-key activities for families. And, it's worth noting, that the market is less than two miles from Raleigh's sunflower field at Dix Park.

You could easily make it a morning or afternoon out - stopping by Peach Day and then moving over to the sunflower field. If you're planning a trip to the sunflower field, our earlier post has all of the details on where to find it, where to park and other information. (And, of course, Pullen Park is just down the street from the sunflower field.)
