The Sugar Mountain Resort announced Friday it is open for the 2024-25 ski and snowboard season.

Visit Sugar Mountain posted to Instagram that the resort got 7 inches of natural snow since Thursday.

Sugar Mountain is open from 9 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Friday and snowmaking is in progress.

Western North Carolina saw its first measurable snow of the season on Thursday. Resort cameras showed snow -- both real and artificial from snowmaking machines -- covering the slopes.

The Cataloochee Skiing area opens Saturday.

Nearby Beech Mountain is expected to open on Friday, Nov. 29 and Appalachian Ski Mountain is expected to open on Saturday, Nov. 30.

Sapphire Valley plans to open for the season on Dec. 14.

Hatley Pointe has yet to announce its opening date.
