Rotary Club adding to City of Oaks as America marks 250 years of independence

An oak tree outside the North Carolina governor's mansion was dedicated Monday as part of the celebration of America 250.

The Rotary Club of Raleigh is planting 250 oak trees throughout the City of Oaks to celebrate 250 years of American independence, part of a larger, nationwide, year-long celebration.

The Declaration of Independence was adopted on July 4, 1776. The nation will mark 250 years with events all across the country in 2026.

The first tree was planted in October at Moore Square. 

The trees planted this year in Raleigh will help to create a healthier, greener and more connected city for generations to come.
