RALEIGH, N.C. — James Rogers, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Duke Energy, will deliver North Carolina State University’s commencement address.

The commencement will be held at 9 a.m. May 14 at the RBC Center in Raleigh.

Rogers was named president and CEO of Duke Energy following the company's April 2006 merger with Cinergy. Before the merger, he served as Cinergy’s chairman and CEO for more than 11 years.

During the commencement, N.C. State Chancellor Randy Woodson will confer an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree on Rogers and an honorary Doctor of Fine Arts degree on Robert Weiss, the artistic director and chief executive officer of Carolina Ballet.

Weiss, who has led Carolina Ballet since its professional launch in 1997, has created 44 works for the dance company, including Romeo and Juliet, Messiah, Stravinsky’s Clowns, The Kreutzer Sonata, Swan Lake, Cinderella and Firebird. He began his career as a professional dancer at age 17, when he joined the New York City Ballet, and eventually rose to the rank of principal dancer there.
