GARNER, N.C. — A group of Garner residents graduated Tuesday evening from the Citizen Police Academy.

"The Citizen Academy gives the citizens of Garner the opportunity to not only meet their police officers, but to get some insight into what the officers go through on a day to day basis," said Tom Moss, Garner chief of police.

Participants in the program conducted building searches, practiced vehicle stop techniques, toured the Raleigh Emergency Communications Center and heard from Garner officers over the course of 10 weeks.

They also got to ride along with Garner officers on patrol.

The next Citizen Academy will begin in Sept. 2009 and interested parties can register on line.
