APEX, N.C. — An Apex youth sports center has reopened under new ownership after a wave of bad publicity surrounding the arrest of one of the co-owners in February.

DreamSports Center officially severed ties with Richard James Ahmed on Sept. 10, a spokeswoman said. Ahmed, 47, of 210 Michelangelo Way in Cary, was indicted on charges of taking indecent liberties with children, soliciting a child by computer and attempted dissemination of obscenity to minors.

After Ahmed's arrest, some longtime customers of the center joined DreamSports founder Bob Boucher to form an investment group to run the center.

The Investment Boulevard sports complex has also instituted new safety measures designed to protect its young clientele, the spokeswoman said.
