Raleigh ranks among greenest US cities

Raleigh placed fifth in a recent survey of the greenest U.S. cities.

RALEIGH, N.C. — Raleigh placed fifth in a recent survey of the greenest U.S. cities.

Thumbtack, a website designed to help people find local services, ranked cities on per capita availability of eco-friendly services, as well as the premium charged by some green businesses.

Some of the services included in the rankings were solar panel installation, bicycle repair, chemical-free house cleaning, organic catering, electronics recycling, chemical-free pest control, chemical-free carpet cleaning, sustainable interior design, green architects and home energy audits.

San Francisco topped the list, followed by neighboring Oakland and San Jose. Las Vegas was No. 4, and Columbus, Ohio, Seattle, Kansas City, Mo., Denver and San Diego rounded out the list.

Charlotte was third nationally in availability of bike repair, according to the rankings.
