Man killed, 13-year-old shot in separate overnight Durham shootings

200 E Umstead St, Durham, NC 27707, USA — A man is dead after a shooting on E. Umstead St. in Durham late Wednesday night, according to police. 

Durham police told WRAL News officers found Tavarus Joyner, 47, shot on the sidewalk next to E. Umstead Street near Sawyer Street around 11:55 p.m.

Joyner was taken to the hospital, where he died. 

The WRAL Breaking News Tracker captured video of police tape blocking off the cul-de-sac at the end of E. Umstead St. A red car was inside the crime scene tape. Forensics crews investigated a pile of debris next to the sidewalk. 

The Durham Mobile Command Unit is on the scene. 

Durham police did not say if any arrests have been made. 

WRAL News is working to find out what led up to this shooting and if police have identified a suspect. 

A few hours before the shooting on E. Umstead Street, a 13-year-old was shot on Rosedale Avenue, less than two miles away. The child was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
