Police officers arrested and charged a Greenville man last month who they say shot at a rapper after they performed at a Raleigh bar on Trawick Road.
According to court documents, Ralegh police officers arrested and charged 21-year-old Ja’Quan Jahmer Whitehurst of Greenville with six counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and four counts of shooting a weapon into occupied property in connection to a shooting on April 13 at StarBar near the intersection of Trawick Road and New Bern Avenue Raleigh.

Police believe a rap artist at the bar that night, identified by the bar’s website as OMB Peezy, was the intended target of Whitehurst’s gunfire.
Just before 4 a.m. on April 13, officers responded to reports of a shooting at the bar, which is located near New Bern Avenue. Police said at the time more than 20 shots were fired in the parking lot outside the bar and some of the gunshots hit the rapper’s van.
No one was injured in the shooting.
The shooting eventually led to North Carolina Alcohol Law Enforcement investigating the bar and the North Carolina Alcoholic Beverage Control Commission eventually suspending its liquor license. Warrants were also issued for staff members who ALE said were serving alcohol after hours at the bar the night of the shooting.
The bar had its liquor license previously suspended years earlier due to a string of shootings and stabbings at or near the bar.
A judge set Whitehurst’s bond at $1 million. Whitehurst had a disposition hearing on June 10 and is expected to appear in court again on August 5.
