CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Sensored Vibes, a new space that caters to the neurodiverse community, is now open in Chapel Hill.
I featured Tynisha Doe, the mom behind it, in a Q&A in June. The open-play indoor gym concept is the brainchild of Doe, an occupational therapist. Doe moved to the Triangle this year with her husband and their blended family of three boys and one girl. Her daughter was born prematurely and has some developmental delays. Doe converted her living room into a sensory gym to help her focus.

"We noticed that our daughter was attending to tasks longer at home when we had her taking breaks to swing on the bars or jump on the trampoline in the living room," Doe shared. "Watching her made me think: What if we had a space for other kids with sensory needs? One that was tailored exactly to their needs that was designed by an occupational therapist and provided therapy services onsite on an as-needed basis, similar to personal training?"

That's what Sensored Vibes provides.

According to a press release, it blends a sensory clinic environment with an open-play concept, designed specifically for families and individuals with various sensory-diverse needs. "Sensored Vibes bridges the gap between traditional open play and limitations that often come with clinical therapy sessions," the release says. "At Sensored Vibes, families only need to reserve a time-slot and can bring their children to explore. The gym houses equipment for sensory-seekers and sensory-avoiders, from monkey bars, climbing walls and a ball pit, to a seclusion room with soothing lights and a rocking chair."

Drop-in hourly rates and monthly memberships are available. Families also can book occupational therapy sessions with Doe.

More information is on Sensored Vibes' website. It's in Chapel Hill's Bold Office Building.
