DURHAM, N.C. — A woman was beaten and strangled to death in Durham on June 30, 2010. Officials said a prison crew stumbled across her body, wrapped in plastic along Olde Oxford Highway.

Dental records identified the woman as Wanda Spence, 43, who had been missing for a week. She was last seen June 23 at the corner of Juniper and North Hyde Park in Durham.

Investigators said Spence was prostituting herself to fund a drug habit. Authorities also said they believe she was killed by at least two people at a different location and dumped along the highway

“You could do it, it’s easy to do it,” said angler Ronnie Perry. “It’s just a tragedy, man.”

Law enforcement went back to the neighborhood near Spence’s home, passing out fliers and knocking on doors.

Officials said there is a possible suspect, but not enough evidence to make an arrest.

Anyone with information regarding Spence’s murder is asked to call the NC Wanted hotline at 1-866-439-2683. There is a cash reward for information leading to an arrest.
