RALEIGH, N.C. — NC State Live's Kidstuff Series kicks off for the season this month with "Sugar Skull," a Dia de los Muertos-themed musical.

The show is 3 p.m., Oct. 21, at Stewart Theatre on NC State's campus near downtown Raleigh. Tickets are $12. Kids 3 and under are free.

Here's a description of the show: "This delightful performance follows a young girl named Vita who thinks her family has gone loco planning a celebration for deceased loved ones. Why throw a party for the dead? But when a candy skeleton in her abuelita’s cemetery suddenly springs to life, Vita finds herself on a magical, musical journey to unravel the true meaning of Día de los Muertos. Meet Sugar Skull, a charismatic candy skeleton who dreams of riding the exclusive train to Who-Knows-Where."

The show is best for ages 6 to 12. An after-show party includes cookies and the opportunity to get autographs from the cast.

Next up in the series is "The Ugly Duckling," scheduled for 3 p.m., March 24, also at Stewart Theatre. According to the description, the production uses cutting edge lighting technology to bring this classic children's story to life in a "blaze of color." It includes electroluminescent wire with puppetry, technology and dance. This one is best for kids in grades kindergarten to fourth.

Individual tickets and season tickets are available for both. Season tickets for both shows are $18 total. NC State's website has more information about both shows.
