Posted — UpdatedThe North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher is asking the public for help naming three new otter pups.
After the pups were born May 21, aquarium staff researched meaningful name ideas inspired by the Asian small-clawed otters and their birth, which occurred during a full moon, King Tide and a storm.
Staff selected four different themes and trios of names for the babies, including:
- Stella, Mae and Selene (moon, Thailand moon goddess and goddess of the moon)
- Padma, Bulan and Melati (Indonesia’s three national flowers—the Giant Padma, Anggrek bulan, the moth orchid; and Melati putih, the Arabian Jasmine)
- Tala, Reyna and Ula (bright star, queen and small one)
- Java, Bali and Nusa (Volcanic islands in Indonesia)
The public is invited to pick from the names above by voting online. Selections are due by noon on Aug. 26.
