Go Ask Mom is full of information about storytimes and playgrounds and special events that appeal to grade schoolers. But once kids hit the tween and teen years, it can be tricky to find activities that fit their schedule and that they'd actually consider fun.

Local museums, however, make the attempt on a regular basis. And we have three teen programs coming up in the next couple of weeks.

Here's what's scheduled:

Teen Coffee House at the N.C. Museum of Art

6 p.m., Friday, Feb. 7
The Teen Arts Council invites teens, ages 13–17, for an evening of art making, live musical performances, and an open mic for spoken word performances. It's free with a high school ID. No tickets are required.

Teen Science Cafe at the N.C. Museum of Natural Sciences

6 p.m. to 7 p.m., Friday, Feb. 7
Dr. K.C. Busch, a science education professor at NC State, will talk about climate change in an interactive presentation aimed at explaining the complex topic to teens. It's free. And the first 50 teens who arrive will get a voucher for a free meal. The museum's Teen Science Cafes are held monthly.

Teen Science Cafe with Morehead Planetarium

5:30 p.m. to 7;30 p.m., Friday, Feb. 14, at Chapel Hill Public Library
The regular program offers science-themed conversations for teens. Pizza or other food is offered starting at 5:30 p.m. It's free.
