Murder Charge Filed After Assault Victim Dies

A Southern Pines man was charged Thursday with second-degree murder in connection with the death of a man following a Tuesday assault, police said.

SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. — A local man was charged Thursday with second-degree murder in connection with the death of a man following a Tuesday assault, police said.

Joshua Lee Davis, 21, is being held in the Moore County Jail on a $5 million bond pending his first court appearance on June 28.

David was initially charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill following an assault at 555 N. Leak St. Tuesday evening, police said. Officers found Lee Marcus Davis unconscious.

Davis was taken to FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, where he died Wednesday of his injuries.
