As the coronavirus pandemic continues and the state government issues a stay-at-home order, some Triangle residents are moving forward with their plans to move residences.

Ann-Cabel Baum is a realtor for the Glenwood Agency, and she says her line of work is still proceeding despite the virus.

While this is going on, Baum notes the importance of taking measures to remain safe and sanitary during a period of heightened risk.

"We have appraisers going in by themselves," she said. "We have inspectors going in by themselves. We have people wearing gloves. We have Lysol wipes in our cars."

Mike Williamson, a Raleigh resident, is selling a home in the Five Points neighborhood just North of downtown Raleigh.

"We actually made the deal in January before we knew this was going to occur," he said. "Probably would have waited if I realized."

With moving businesses being deemed as essential and, at least for the time being, staying open, they are able to help meet this demand.

But not all movers are proceeding with business as usual.

One area couple saw their moving company cancel a move citing coronavirus concerns.

Keeley Stevens and her fiance Daniel Real moved into a condo off of Glenwood Avenue

"Our couch, our loveseat, our dresser, the majority of our work clothes," remain at their old apartment, Stevens said.

The couple considered hiring another moving agency, but decided against it, according to Real.

"That's what makes you sort of worried about hiring anyone else."

Little Guys Movers in Raleigh is one agency that is conducting business as usual.

"Moving businesses are still considered essential elements to our infrastructure here," manager Blake Allen said. "We can wipe down our equipment as we're going in and out of houses," he said as he outlined safety measures.

Just more signs of these times.
