The first two weeks of February include a couple of opportunities for science-loving teens.

From 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., Friday, the N.C. Museum of Natural Sciences in Raleigh will host one of its regular Teen Science Cafes. The event will be about the science of severe weather and feature Brice Coffer, a PhD student at N.C. State University and storm chaser. Coffer's research focuses on severe storms and tornadoes. It's free. All teens are welcome. The cafe is part of the museum's First Friday activities.
And, next week, Morehead Planetarium and Science Center in Chapel Hill will host Dr. Mark Peifer for another Teen Science Cafe about cell and developmental biology. For ages 13 to 18, the free program is 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., Feb. 12. The programs include free pizza or some other treat.
