Kimberly Brackett-Jones tells me that more than half of the people who buy her Five Points Baking Co. cheese straws take them home not because they're gluten free, but because they taste so good.

And I'm here to report that that is very true. I mentioned her cheese straws during an appearance I made on Fox50's Tarheel Talk last weekend. The crew heard me say they were gluten free and were a little timid when I offered a taste from one of the boxes that I had on hand.

But they tried it. And with the first taste, they were hooked, talking about what sorts of beverages would go with the snacks. The show's host was making plans to buy a bunch for her holiday party!

I featured Brackett-Jones, a Raleigh mom of two, and her cheese straws earlier this month. She developed the recipe for her husband, a Type 1 diabetic with Celiac disease. The cheese straws use almond flour, along with other natural ingredients.

Since that feature, she tells me that she's been very busy filling orders and getting boxes to Whole Foods, A Southern Season and online customers.

After all, it is cheese straw season!
