It’s another first for me as a parent. I knew it was bound to happen. My kids have been influenced by something they saw on TV.

The kids and I like to watch American Idol. We all snuggle together in bed and talk about the performances. My four-year-old particularly likes to look at the clothes. I tried once to fast forward through the judge’s introduction and their walking across the stage. But Carys stopped me because she wanted to see JLo’s dress. I tell ya, I caught the third degree for skipping it!

Well, I’ve noticed a change in my daughters’ dressing habits. My seven-year-old has taken to wearing a fedora-style hat and sunglasses while playing the guitar. She made up a song the other day about living on a farm. I was actually kind of impressed. She even had some rhyming going on.

My four-year-old Carys is quite taken with Lauren’s style on Idol. She went to my older daughters’ closet and confiscated a pair of pink cowboy boots. Didn’t matter they were about four sizes too big. She’s been pairing them every day with a different dress. Oh well, at least she doesn’t get mulch in them from the daycare playground!
