Long-time Angus Barn chef Walter Royal dies

The restaurant confirmed the chef's death Monday evening. Walter Royal was executive chef at the Angus Barn for over 25 years.

Walter Royal, a long-time chef at one of Raleigh's most popular restaurants, The Angus Barn, has passed away.

The restaurant confirmed his death to WRAL News Monday evening.

The cause of his death is currently unknown.

Royal was the Angus Barn's executive chef for over 25 years and earned numerous accolades, including winning Iron Chef America in 2006.

"His spirit, kindness and desire to mentor others was legendary," the restaurant said in a statement. "He set the example for a life well lived, even in the face of adversity. His legacy will live forever and he will be greatly missed by so very many. May he rest in peace."
