Learn about moths during evening program at Prairie Ridge Ecostation

Prairie Ridge Ecostation, the N.C. Museum of Natural Sciences' field station in west Raleigh, will explore the night life of moths in a special event this month that runs into the wee hours.

Moths All Night! begins 8 p.m., July 28, and ends at 4 a.m., July 29. Pre-registration is required and kids 15 and under must be with a registered adult. Participants also must attend an introductory session, which take places at 8 p.m., 10:30 p.m. and 1 a.m. during the event.

The event happens during National Moth Week. Visitors will head out into the property with black lights and traps to see what's out and about all night. Different species are active at different times so you'll see new bugs throughout the evening. Participants are asked to bring a flashlight, camera (if you have one) and moth questions for the ecostation's experts.

Photos will be uploaded to a website throughout the night so the data can help scientists learn more about the species in our area.
