Ice skater Kristi Yamaguchi, who won the gold medal in the 1992 Winter Olympics, will be at Quail Ridge Books this week with her new picture book, "Cara's Kindness."

This is the second picture book for Yamaguchi, a mom of two, who also was champion on "Dancing with the Stars." In 2011, she came out with "Dream Big, Little Pig," which was No. 2 on the New York Times bestseller list. Yamaguchi also is a former Raleigh resident, who lived here when her husband, Bret Hedican, played with the Carolina Hurricanes.

"Cara's Kindness" is a tale of friendship with an ice-skating setting. It's best for ages 4 and up.

She'll be at Quail Ridge at 4:30 p.m., Wednesday. It's free to attend, but if you'd like her to sign her book, you'll need to buy the book from Quail Ridge and get a signing line ticket. It's best to order your book ahead of time to get an earlier ticket for the line. (She'll be signing any of her books, but no memorabilia).

Quail Ridge's website has more information. The store is at 4209-100 Lassiter Mill Rd., Raleigh.
