Despite getting the flu shot, I still came down with the flu! It came on so sudden that I didn't even realize it was the flu.

I had started coughing a little one night, but didn't think anything of it. My sinuses have been a mess since I got pregnant. I went to work the next day, but still felt a little run down. Pregnancy does that though, so I shrugged it off.

That afternoon I started having severe chest pains - like acid reflux, but a lot worse. Since I have a history of reflux, I took some Tums and waited it out. Two hours later it was getting worse, so I went to urgent care. They didn't suspect flu and only did an EKG on me. My heart was fine, but my resting pulse was 120 to 130, so they made me go to the emergency room.

Once there, I started to feel really run down. They took blood and tested me for the flu, and sure enough, I came up positive for Flu A. They gave me a dose of Tamiflu and sent me home. What they didn't tell me was that Tamiflu can make some people very nauseous and cause vomiting. Apparently these side effects are amplified for pregnant women!

After two hours of not being able to keep anything down, I had to go back to the ER where the doctor and nurses confirmed that I was having a reaction to Tamiflu like many pregnant women do.

Needless to say, I didn't take anymore Tamiflu! My son took it last year when he got the flu and he was fine. Just another fun pregnancy side effect. At least going to the hospital meant I got to see our sweet baby on the ultrasound machine again. She was fine. I was a nervous wreck because I was scared my dehydration would hurt her.

So have you had the flu shot? Did you get the flu?

By some miracle my husband and son avoided catching it from me, and my husband didn't even get a flu shot.
