Raleigh, N.C. — A WalletHub study comparing all 50 state capitals ranks Raleigh No. 3 for safety.
The results come days before President-elect Joe Biden's inauguration and amid a warning from the FBI of possible armed protests nationwide.
In the study, WalletHub used metrics of affordability, economic well-being, quality of education and health, and quality of life to rank the states.
Raleigh was identified as the third safest, with Austin, Texas, claiming the lead position and Madison, Wis., in second place.
Other state capitals in the top 10 included Lincoln, Neb.; Boise, Idaho; Concord, N.H.; Olympia, Wash.; Columbus, Ohio; Helena, Mont.; and Salt Lake City, Utah.
State capitals that ranked lowest for safety included Baton Rouge, La.; Trenton, N.J.; Charleston, W.V.; Hartford, Conn.; Dover, Del.; and Montgomery, Ala.
Raleigh also ranked in the top five cities of adults with bachelor degrees or higher and lowest premature death rates.
